Gastric Sleeve Jason

"...I looked at [Dr. Basa] and I said thank you for saving my life..."

I remember Dr. Basa came in after my surgery to check in on me, and I started doing what I’m doing now I started getting emotional because I looked at her and I said thank you for saving my life. Because it does, it changes your life forever.

My worse ever was probably you know eight or nine years ago where I was at about 445 pounds. And I’m talking like 5X shirts, 56, 58 inch pants. I mean it was my rock bottom.

I’m married now and fortunate enough that I actually have a family on the way, and I realized that something had to be done and sometimes in life you just got to realize that it’s okay to ask for help. Especially when you’ve got a great support team in place that they do here at Cedar Park Surgeons.

Dr. Abando told me he said, he said we’re going to take good care of you. And you know that was very meaningful you know to hear that you know the medical community alone they’re very busy people you know, and they have a lot of patients to see and I’ve never felt so like I was just the only person that they had. You know as much as I did here.

It’s hard for people that have never struggled with their weight before to understand what it’s like to have a problem with weight. You know your ups and downs, your peaks and valleys, it’s one of those things where you kind of you know you start trying something out and it starts to work and you have a little bit of a set back and your like, oh it’s okay I’ll get back on track next week, and then the next thing you know a month has gone by and your off track again and the weights coming back on.

With the sleeve you can really do most of the things you did before obviously just in a very limited quantity. I think that was the main thing that made me decide more on the sleeve because I knew that I had you know, I had the willpower to do what needed to be done I just needed the help to get there.

The surgery in the grand scheme of things the way that they do it here with Dr. Basa and Dr. Abando it truly is a turnkey solution for what you’re wanting to do. I mean the surgery is kind of the culmination of the whole process. From your initial consult you know they make sure that you have everything you need to make the right decision. You don’t just walk in and schedule your surgery, and walk out and show up on the operating table. There are a number of different educational components that go into this, because they truly want to partner with you and make sure that you’re successful in this.

I did this not only for myself, but for other people in my life and it was the right decision to do. And you know people that came in and visited, they kept saying you know they were proud of me and that really hit home. You know because you kind of struggle in life, you know your weight starts to take over and you don’t want that to occur, but when you start to realize how many people are affected by it and that your decisions are making life better for everybody else you know it was the right one to make.

My procedure was August 26th of last year, and I’m down from the day that I walked into her office in June last year I weighed 410 pounds, and on the scale this morning I was 245. So I’ve lost 160 pounds. I’m as active as I’ve ever been in my life. I’m in better shape than I was when I was playing football when I was a kid.

The biggest complaint that I have right now is I wish I would have done it sooner.
