Weight Loss Surgery Support: Cedar Park Surgeons, PA (Treating Austin Residents)

Although procedures such as laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and sleeve gastrectomy surgery can safely and effectively reduce the size of the stomach, prompting rapid weight loss, surgery alone will not produce optimal results. Patients must make drastic lifestyle changes after surgery, including altering their diets and exercise routines. Those who have subsisted on foods rich in sugar and fat need to switch to a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet, and start walking, running, or swimming regularly. Having a healthy attitude and appropriate expectations are also components of successful weight loss. Fortunately, our Cedar Park bariatric practice has developed a plan to help weight loss patients adjust to their new lives. Read about the support available to our patients (from Austin and the surrounding areas) on this page, and contact our practice to attend a seminar and speak with a bariatric surgeon if you'd like more information.

Personalized, Comprehensive Care

Our patients sometimes have a difficult time adjusting to the significant lifestyle changes that must accompany bariatric surgery. But they aren't alone in this process; Cedar Park surgeons Alan Abando, M.D. and Nicole Basa, M.D., are there to support them every step of the way, helping them successfully adopt healthy habits and a positive attitude toward changes in their bodies. The journey to safe, effective weight loss requires support and encouragement, and we want to see all of our patients succeed and go on to live full, enjoyable lives.

Our practice prides itself on making services personalized and accessible to each patient who turns to us for help. One of the reasons we are able to make services so accessible is our location – individuals interested in bariatric surgery, living in Cedar Park and Austin, no longer need to travel far to see a competent, dedicated surgeon. The local community can benefit from our expertise and wealth of weight loss treatment knowledge without traveling far from home.

Exercise Habits

Couple ExerciseEngaging in regular physical activity is critical for patients who want not only to lose their excess weight but to keep it off. Many of our bariatric patients are used to a sedentary lifestyle prior to surgery, and may be hesitant about starting an exercise regimen. Our practice understands that co-morbidities such as respiratory difficulties, cardiovascular issues, and joint pain make it hard for patients to adopt a regular exercise routine. But we can suggest simple exercises that are safe and effective, and then work up to higher intensity workouts. The goal is for patients to increase physical fitness, maintain healthy weight loss, and develop muscle mass so that they can burn more calories. In some cases, our doctors may recommend enlisting the help of a physical trainer.
