The goal at our practice is to provide quality surgical care to the local community, with an emphasis on minimally invasive procedures. In addition to weight loss surgeries such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, Drs. Alan Abando and Nicole Basa offer a range of general surgery procedures to treat diseases such as colon cancer and treat conditions affecting the GI tract such as gallbladder disease, to the local Austin and Cedar Park communities. Our bariatric surgeons have a strong background in performing successful laparoscopic surgeries on suitable candidates; this technique decreases patients' post-surgical pain, the length of their hospital stay, and their overall recovery period. Read on for more information about our general surgeries, including colon cancer surgery, or contact our Cedar Park bariatric surgeon team, near Austin.
Cedar Park Surgeons is now offering the THD procedure. A virtually pain free hemorrhoid repair procedure.
To find out if you are a candidate for the THD procedure, call our office to schedule your consultation. We also offer the traditional hemorrhoidectomy in cases that the THD is not an appropriate procedure for you. For more information about THD visit the THD America website.

Colon cancer can start as polyps (small, fleshy growths) within the wall of the bowel. Symptoms include irregular bowel habits, blood in the stool, or recurrent abdominal pain. Polyps are detected during a colonoscopy and removed during surgery. During minimally invasive colon cancer surgery, performed at the Austin-area Cedar Park Regional Medical Center, Drs. Abando and Basa use tools inserted through small incisions and a tiny camera to remove the cancerous section of the colon and, if possible, reconnect the healthy sections of the colon so that waste can continue to pass normally.
Laparoscopic colon surgery can also treat diverticulitis, a condition that occurs when bulging sacs form in the digestive tract and become inflamed or infected. Although the bulging sacs are fairly common among older individuals, when they become infected, it can cause abdominal pain, nausea, and fever. Treatment can start with antibiotics, but if the diverticulitis persists, surgery may become necessary to remove the affected part of the colon.

In addition to colon cancer surgery, Cedar Park Surgeons, PA (treating patients from Austin and surrounding communities) offer other gastrointestinal tract surgeries, including heller myotomy, gastric resection, and small bowel resection. Our surgeons utilize minimally invasive techniques during all procedures.

Hernias, or tears or weaknesses within the abdominal wall, occur when a portion of the intestines or fatty tissue presses up against the lining of the wall, producing a bulge. Hernias are extremely painful and sometimes inhibit normal body movement and daily activity. Our Cedar Park surgeons can perform laparoscopic surgery for ventral or inguinal hernias, using a special "mesh" substance to repair the area. The surgery is minimally invasive and, in most cases, patients can return home the same day. If you are interested in hernia repair, or another procedure such as colon cancer surgery, please contact Cedar Park Surgeons, PA, serving Austin and outlying communities.

The gallbladder is a small organ located below the liver, and its function is to store bile to aid in the digestive process. Sometimes bile and other chemicals in the gallbladder can build up and form small deposits, or "stones," that cause pain, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting. Or the deposits can travel into the bile ducts, prompting even more serious health problems. To treat this condition requires surgical removal of the gallstones and gallbladder. Gallbladder surgery is also necessary to treat cancer of the gallbladder. In the past, gallbladder surgery was an extremely invasive procedure, requiring several days in the hospital followed by weeks of slow recovery. Dr. Abando and Dr. Basa perform gallbladder surgery laparoscopically – as they do with laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery and colon cancer surgery – for our Austin and Cedar Park patients.
